The Alliance stated that the Russian army is more than two years old, but its quality has declined.
As of autumn 2024, the Russian army no longer poses the same threat as in February 2022, so NATO has time to prepare for war.
This was stated by the head of the NATO Military Committee, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, Reuters reports.
Wynne added that this means an increase in investment in the defense industry.
“The quality of these forces (Russian – ed.) has declined… At the moment, the Russians do not pose the same threat as in February 2022, so we have a little time to prepare,” he said.
Bauer added that it is necessary to increase investments in the defense industry to contain the Russian Federation.
“If we can ensure the supply of all vital goods and services under any conditions, this will be a key component of our containment policy,” Bauer explained.
According to the admiral, containment is not only military capabilities, but also the use of all available tools in war conditions.
He cited the example of the growing number of acts of sabotage in Europe. We are also talking about interruptions in energy supplies.
“We thought we were concluding agreements with Gazprom, but in fact we were negotiating with Putin. Also with Chinese infrastructure and goods. In essence, we are dealing with Xi Jinping,” he added.
Dependence on Chinese exports
Bauer also noted the West's dependence on Chinese exports. Moreover, chemical components for medical products are also supplied from China.
He called the hope that the Communist Party of China will never exploit this dependence naive.
“Business leaders in Europe and the United States must understand that their commercial decisions have a strategic impact on the security of countries. Business must be prepared for a war scenario and adapt their production and supply chains accordingly,” the admiral explained.
Recall that Russia will have enough Soviet weapons until the end of 2025. This is reported by Western media. At the same time, the Russians are still actively using artillery, the so-called “queen of war.” This is what she prefers in the war against Ukraine.
