NATO is considering the possibility of continuing to build up its presence on the eastern flank. This statement was made by the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with CNN.
“NATO will not deploy combat forces in Ukraine. But we must not allow misunderstandings about our readiness and commitment to defend our allies, especially on the eastern flank of the alliance,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, it is for this reason that the alliance has strengthened its military presence in the eastern direction, in particular, in the Black Sea region and in the Baltic States.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki denied information about the US intention to send troops to Ukraine. According to her, American President Joe Biden has “neither interest nor desire” for this. She explained that the decision to bring 8,5 thousand American troops to a state of high readiness for transfer to Europe was taken only to “support the eastern flank of NATO.”
