The international NATO exercise Poseidon-21 has started in the Black Sea port of Constanta. This was reported on the official website of the General Staff of the Romanian Navy.
According to a press release, the exercise began on February 26 and will run until March 6. More than 700 foreign military personnel will take part in them. The planned exercises, which will combine forces from Bulgaria, France, Greece, Romania, Spain, the United States and Turkey, will take place on the sea, land and air.
Poseidon 21 is a highly sophisticated exercise aimed at optimizing NATO's capabilities to enhance the Alliance's rapid response, the statement said. Participants will practice scenarios to combat underwater threats, including hydrographic reconnaissance, detection and disposal of sea mines and improvised explosive devices.
Military personnel will be trained to fight against enemy aircraft, ships and submarines, tow damaged ships, refuel on the water and provide first aid. Among other things, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania will work out joint actions during the explosion of a hydraulic structure.
In June last year, the international exercise Baltops was held in the Baltic Sea, in which representatives of 19 NATO countries took part. The exercise lasted from June 7 to June 16.
