Lithuania must be prepared for possible aggression, since Russia views it and its neighboring regions as “part of its empire.”
Director of Defense Policy at the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense Vaidotas Urbelis believes that Russia now poses a greater threat to neighboring NATO countries, despite the fact that it is waging war in Ukraine.
He said this in a comment to Business Insider.
“They now have experience in large-scale war, which should be considered as part of the planning. If you look just at the numbers, you will see that there are more people in the Russian armed forces now than before the invasion [of Ukraine] “,” noted a Defense Ministry official.
Urbellis said that despite the loss of Russian equipment, Russia “will be able to recover quite quickly.” According to him, the aggressor state is already correcting some of its mistakes, in particular increasing weapons production to eliminate shortages and reconsidering some ineffective tactics.
According to him, Lithuania must be prepared for possible aggression, since Russia considers it and its neighboring regions “as part of its empire.”
Urbellis stressed that Lithuania must be ready to respond quickly, without waiting for the NATO mechanism to work. He believes that his country needs to “be ready to fight at any moment.”
This preparedness should include stationing more NATO troops permanently in the country, increasing defense spending, and strengthening border security.
We would like to remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania takes seriously the threat of a Russian attack on the Baltic countries.
