Jens Stoltenberg and Joe Biden

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had a telephone conversation with the likely winner of the US presidential election, Joe Biden. He wrote about this on Twitter.

Stoltenberg congratulated the politician and future US Vice President Kamala Harris on winning the election. “I look forward to working with him to further strengthen NATO as the cornerstone of our collective security,” he stressed.

He also thanked Biden “for his long-standing support for NATO and the transatlantic relationship” and expressed hope for “working closely with him to further strengthen ties between North America and Europe and prepare for next year's NATO leaders meeting.”

On November 7, Stoltenberg congratulated the Democrat on his victory in the presidential election in the United States and called on to resist numerous threats, including from Russia. “We need this collective power to confront the many challenges we face, including a more assertive Russia, international terrorism, cyber and missile threats, and a shift in the global balance of power due to the rise of China,” he said in a congratulatory message.

On November 3, 2020, the next presidential elections were held in the United States. The counting of votes and the proceedings on this issue are still ongoing. According to the media, Biden received the necessary number of electoral votes to win, thus surpassing the incumbent President Donald Trump. The democrat has already proclaimed himself the elected president of the United States. Trump, in turn, said that Biden was in a hurry to call himself the country's new leader.
