The decision on negotiations with Moscow should be made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference, his words are quoted by TASS.

According to the politician, such issues are decided by the head of state and the cabinet of ministers. “As for potential negotiations between the government of Ukraine, President Zelensky and Russia: my main message is that President Zelensky and the government of Ukraine should decide,” he called the position of the alliance.

According to Stoltenberg, the North Atlantic Alliance wants to see how “Russia will stop the attacks against Ukraine.” In his opinion, this is the “fastest, easiest and best way to peace.”

Earlier, Vladimir Zelensky invited Russian leader Vladimir Putin to sit down at the negotiating table.

Moscow has said it will be ready to start negotiations with Kiev after the Ukrainian military lay down their arms. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, this will happen as soon as the Armed Forces of Ukraine respond to Putin's call and stop resisting.

The special operation to protect Donbass began on Thursday, February 24.
