According to Jens Stoltenberg, quantum technologies could strengthen NATO's cybersecurity and capabilities.
NATO foreign ministers have approved the Alliance's first quantum strategy, which should strengthen the bloc's cyber security.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this at a press conference in Brussels, where a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Alliance countries is taking place, Ukrinform reports.
“Ministers also discussed the importance of technological innovation. Today, Alliance members adopted the first quantum strategy in NATO history. Quantum technologies can strengthen our cyber security and capability,” the head of the Alliance said.
According to the NATO Secretary General, the new strategy will allow us to take advantage of the opportunities provided by quantum technologies, while at the same time “preventing competitors from using these technologies against us.”
Stoltenberg noted that during the meeting on Tuesday, November 28, the foreign ministers also discussed “the issue of NATO deterrence and defense, support for Ukraine and our partnership in anticipation of the summit in Washington next summer.”
In addition, they discussed challenges to Euro-Atlantic security from China. “China is not our adversary. And I welcome the fact that Alliance members are engaged in dialogue with Beijing on issues of mutual interest. At the same time, we must be clearly aware of the impact of China’s coercive policies on our security,” said the NATO Secretary General.
Stoltenberg added that NATO will remain a regional alliance of Europe and North America, but the bloc “needs to work more closely with partners, including in the Indo-Pacific region.”
Let us remind you that the meetings of the heads of diplomatic departments of NATO countries in Brussels, as well as the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, which will take place this week, in which US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will take part, will confirm the Alliance’s strong commitment to further support of Ukraine .
