NATO admits return to normal relations with Russia is impossible

At the same time, Stoltenberg still believes that the right decision was to use the historical moment to build better security in Europe together with Russia.

The end of the war in Ukraine will not be a return to normal relations with Russia. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said there is no turning back.

Stoltenberg stated this at the SAMAK summit of the Nordic countries in Helsinki.

“At the end of the Cold War, many in this room believed that we could build a better relationship with Russia. So did I. And I still believe that the right decision was to seize the historic moment to build better security in Europe together with Russia,” Stoltenberg said.

At the same time, Kremlin head Vladimir Putin, as Stoltenberg said, “decided to move away from cooperation and dialogue” and destroyed the fundamental principles of global security by attacking neighboring countries and trying to “blow up our democratic states.”

The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance recalled the Kremlin's decision to suspend the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, the provisions of which it has violated over the past few years.

“Therefore, we must recognize that the end of this war will not be a return to normal relations with Russia. There is no turning back,” Stoltenberg said.

Recall that the head of the Hungarian government, Viktor Orban, said that the issue of Ukraine's accession to NATO will arise sooner or later. But noted that the Alliance should think “ten thousand times” before making a decision.
