NASA managed to create oxygen on Mars

Specialists from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) were able to obtain oxygen from carbon dioxide on Mars, reports TASS.

The department said that oxygen was obtained from the atmosphere of Mars using the MOXIE device installed on the Perseverance rover. At the moment, the system is just undergoing tests, and it managed to create five grams of oxygen in the conditions of Mars. This volume is enough for an astronaut to breathe for 10 minutes.

In the near future, the existing system will make it possible to receive up to 10 grams of oxygen per hour. It is noted that oxygen is necessary not only to support the life of astronauts, but also to produce fuel for return to Earth.

The head of the NASA Science Directorate, Jim Reuter, stressed that there is still a lot of work to be done, but we can already say that a significant step has been made towards the implementation of the project of landing people on Mars.

Earlier it became known that the NASA helicopter made its first flight over the surface of Mars.
