Elon Musk's business is closely linked to the US defense industry and the American billionaire has access to certain classified information.
NASA Director and US Democratic Senator Bill Nelson believes it is necessary to investigate the ties between American businessman and SpaceX founder Elon Musk and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he allegedly supports regular contacts from the end of 2022.
He said this at the World Economy Summit, CNN reports.
Bill Nelson noted that he was not sure about the veracity of this information, but it should be verified.
“If the story that Elon Musk and the Russian president have had numerous conversations is true, then I think it would be of concern, especially to NASA, to the Department of Defense, to some intelligence agencies,” he said.
This concern is explained by the fact that Elon Musk's business is closely connected to the US defense industry and the American billionaire has access to certain classified information.
In particular, his company SpaceX, which operates the Starlink service, won a secret $1.8 billion contract in 2021 and is also the main launch vehicle for spacecraft for the Pentagon and NASA.
Recall that earlier, the Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, reported that American billionaire Elon Musk has been regularly communicating with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the end of 2022. In private conversations, they discuss personal topics, business, and geopolitical tensions.
