Researchers at the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have obtained oxygen for the first time from the atmosphere of Mars. It was obtained by a device aboard the Perseverance rover. This was reported on the website of the space department.

“This is a vital first step when it comes to converting carbon dioxide to oxygen on Mars,” NASA Deputy Science Director Jim Reiter said.

In his opinion, the possibility of using MOXIE brings researchers closer to the “main goal: to someday see people on Mars.”

The scientist noted that oxygen is not only because people breathe it, but from the point of view of obtaining rocket fuel.

Earlier it was reported that the American rover Perseverance successfully landed on Mars and has even managed to transmit the first images from the surface of the Red Planet. By the way, the landing of the device itself took place without incident, the rover began to carry out its research activities on Mars.

Later it became known about the first trip of the rover on the surface of Mars. The duration of his movement on the Red Planet was 33 minutes. In half an hour, the six-wheeled vehicle was able to overcome 6.5 meters.
