Psychotherapist, narcologist Yuri Vyalba said that Russians in the northern regions of the country are more prone to alcoholism. He spoke about the reasons for the predisposition in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the narcologist, this is due, among other things, to climatic conditions.
Also, the inhabitants of the north have a psychological peculiarity due to the fact that winter comes quickly there, and it gets dark early. The doctor added that there are not enough “cultural processes” in these regions, and people in such conditions often stay at home and drink.
Vyalba stressed that in Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan, on the contrary, Russians consume less alcohol, since the main religion there prohibits it. “Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan are Muslim republics, their religion prohibits the consumption of alcohol. People try to adhere to the canons that the faith prescribes, and accordingly they drink less, ”the narcologist said.
The most drinking regions of Russia were named earlier. The last position in the anti-rating was taken by the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. 84th place (of the total number of regions of the Russian Federation) belongs to the Komi Republic and 83rd – to the Sakhalin Region. Also, the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Kirov Region were included in the “anti-rating” of non-drinking regions at the end of 2021.
