In Indonesia, a police inspector general named Napoleon Bonaparte was caught taking a bribe and sent to prison. Jakarta Globe reports.
According to the verdict passed by the Anti-Corruption Court of Jakarta, the law enforcement officer was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for taking bribes in the amount of 370 thousand US dollars (27.8 million rubles) and 200 thousand Singapore dollars (10.8 million rubles). For this money, a policeman helped a man who was wanted on charges of bribery to return to the country.
The court also sentenced to 3.5 years in prison another high-ranking defendant in the case, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo. The police reportedly removed the fraudster's name from the Interpol wanted list. Moreover, their prison sentences are one year longer than the prosecutor's office requested.
General Bonaparte categorically denied all charges, calling them “persecution”, and intends to appeal the verdict. “I'd rather die than question the honor of my family,” he said.
