De Wit is the creator of the popular iPhone photo app Halide. He noticed that at first glance, there are no major differences between the cameras of the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, but a more advanced device is capable of producing better images. In a detailed analysis of the flagships, the developer emphasized that Apple decided not to increase the resolution of the iPhone camera lenses, leaving the figure at 12 megapixels. However, the main camera sensor of the top-end iPhone 12 Pro Max is 47 percent larger than the 12 Pro's.
A feature named by the specialist allows the camera to capture more light when shooting, resulting in more detailed images. “Most people will not notice the difference between the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max, as they shoot mainly during daylight hours,” emphasized Sebastian de Wit. In addition, special algorithms improve the final image by composing it from multiple images. However, when shooting at night, the difference is obvious.
De Wit also said that better images on all Apple smartphones are obtained using Sensor Shift technology. During shooting, the lens of the device moves slightly relative to the phone to compensate for shaking during the movement of the device. This technology first appeared in the iPhone 7 Plus.
