American doctors at the Cleveland Clinic have named one of the easiest ways to understand whether a person has diabetes. According to them, the presence of the disease is determined by an unusual taste that appears in the mouth of diabetics, according to Medic Forum.
Experts explained that when a persistent sweet taste occurs in the oral cavity for no apparent reason, this indicates that the body cannot regulate blood sugar levels. This, in turn, is a harbinger of diabetes.
As diabetes develops, the patient has disorders in the pancreas, which leads to the fact that the body gradually becomes unable to provide a stable level of sugar in the blood, which is why its growth occurs. At the same time, sensitivity to the hypoglycemic hormone insulin is impaired, or it is not produced enough. The concentration of sugar in the blood increases, which leads to the appearance of a sweet taste in the mouth, doctors said.
Earlier, scientists in the UK and New Zealand found out why many patients suffering from hypertension also have diabetes. Researchers have shown that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) links blood pressure and blood sugar levels. GLP-1 is released from the intestinal wall after eating and affects the production of insulin by the pancreas to control blood sugar levels.
