A new coronavirus mutation discovered in December in the UK has made it to Germany. It is reported by the Deutsche Welle edition with reference to the authorities of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg.
The mutated virus was found in a woman who flew to Frankfurt from London. At the airport she was met by her relatives, with whom she was isolated after confirming the diagnosis. It is reported that the woman still has mild symptoms of the disease. Three people who had contact with the sick woman were also quarantined.
Earlier, French Minister of Health Olivier Veran admitted the possibility of a new mutation of the coronavirus entering the country. According to him, cases of infection with the “British strain” have not yet been recorded in the republic, but they cannot be ruled out unequivocally. The head of the Ministry of Health added that there is no reason to doubt the effectiveness of the vaccine yet.
A dangerous mutation of the coronavirus was first discovered in the UK in September. To date, about a thousand cases of infection with the new strain have been identified. The mutation has also been identified in patients in the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia and Italy. The British Advisory Board on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats said this variant of the coronavirus is spreading faster.
