Billionaire Elon Musk called the self-governing island of Taiwan “an inseparable part of China” and was criticized by Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.
Musk made his statement during an online participation at the All-in Summit in California, CNN reports.
The billionaire also accused the US Pacific Fleet of “forcibly stopping any attempts to reunite” Taiwan with China.
“Beijing’s policy is to reunite Taiwan and China. In their opinion, an analogy can probably be drawn with Hawaii or something similar: Taiwan is not a separate part of China, which by chance is not an integral part of China mainly because the US Pacific Fleet forcibly stopped any attempts at reunification,” said the American billionaire.
He also emphasized that he understands China “well.”
Taiwan's response to Musk's statement
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu criticized Musk's statement, also reproaching him for trying to “disrupt Ukraine's counter-offensive.”
“I hope Musk can also ask the Chinese Communist Party to open for its citizens, platform X. Perhaps he believes that this ban is a good decision, as well asswitching off Starlink to disrupt Ukraine's counter-offensive against Russia, said Wu.
“Listen , Taiwan is not part of Chinaand is definitely not for sale,” the minister emphasized in a message on the social network X.
Note that the social network X and other Western social networks have long been blocked in China.
