Musical storage to be built in the Arctic in case of Doomsday

The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (St. Petersburg) announced a decision to build a music repository on the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic. It will be located at a depth of one thousand feet, according to the Telegram- channel “Ice” of the AARI.

It is planned that the building will be commissioned by the beginning of next year. It will be located under snow and rock. The service life will be at least a thousand years. For storage and archiving of music, special technologies are used, which include binary coding and high-density QR codes. They will be recorded on durable optical tape.

To begin with, it is planned to preserve local musical styles. Then they will move on to other genres. Individual countries will be able to submit ideas for compositions that should be included in the final version.

We will remind, earlier on Spitsbergen the World Seed Vault was created. This is an inviolable bank of plant seeds from all over the world, which are, in fact, a reserve in case of some kind of global catastrophe. The storage is located at a depth of 120 meters in the village of Longyearbyen.

Last year, in July, they recorded a record temperature. For two days in a row, the thermometers showed +21.2 degrees Celsius. Warming also affected the seed storage in 2016. Then it was necessary to allocate 20 million euros for its repair after the infiltration of water caused by the melting of permafrost.
