The head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, spoke about the production of the drug “Covid Globulin” based on the blood plasma of COVID-19 patients in an interview with RIA Novosti.

As Murashko noted, the production of the drug in Russia has already begun, and it needs to be increased, but this will definitely require plasma. “This is an anticoid immunoglobulin – this is already a highly concentrated drug that allows you to neutralize the virus, and it, of course, is of the highest priority in comparison with anticoid plasma,” he said.

The minister clarified that treatment with only one drug does not always give the full effect, so the doctor chooses a combination of them. At the moment, new data have already appeared on the combination of blood plasma with antiviral drugs.

The world's first drug “Covid Globulin” based on blood plasma from patients with coronavirus infection was registered by the Ministry of Health of Russia on June 4. To create the development, it took 2.5 tons of biomaterial from recovered residents of Moscow. The result is a specific immunoglobulin designed to treat infected people. It is allowed to be used in the therapy of people aged 18 to 60 years.
