Mourning in the NHL! Goalie legend dies of cancer

The NHL mourns a goalkeeper legend! Tony Esposito died of cancer at the age of 78.

Esposito came from a hockey family, made his debut in 1968 with the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL. In the same season he moved to the Chicago Blackhawks, where he became a goalie legend and stood between the posts for 15 years. With 418 wins and 74 shut-outs – 15 of them in his first year – he still holds the club record with the Blackhawks.

Esposito received the Calder Trophy for best rookie and the Vezina trophy for best goalie in 1970. Also in 1972 and 1974 he was named the best goalkeeper. In 1988 Esposito was inducted into the “Hall of Fame”. His brother Phil Esposito also made it to the NHL star. At the age of 78, Tony Esposito succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
