“I can finally pursue my passion again,” says the six-time world champion in the supreme motorcycle discipline.

Marc Marquez can finally race again. The eight-time motorcycle world champion, including six in MotoGP, is returning to the Grand Prix circuit in Portugal this coming weekend after a long break due to injuries. The 28-year-old Spaniard has had to be patient over the past few months. Last July he crashed at the season opener at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez and broke his right upper arm.

“I'm very happy. The doctors gave me the green light yesterday. It was nine difficult months with uncertain moments and now I can finally pursue my passion again,” Marquez posted on Facebook.

Three operations

What had initially been announced as a short break from competition turned into a never-ending ordeal. The healing process did not go as expected. The Spaniard had to undergo an operation three times. In the third procedure in December, the surgeons replaced a titanium plate and performed a bone graft from the iliac crest to the upper arm.

Marquez has now received the green light from the doctors for racing again. Next weekend he will be able to compete in the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao.
