Moscow launched a voice assistant to collect complaints about the well-being of patients by phone

A new service has appeared in the capital's polyclinics: now, before an appointment with a doctor, patients can report their health by phone to a voice assistant. The robot will record the patient's complaints, so that the specialist will be able to familiarize himself with them in advance and devote more time to the visitor during the visit.

“The unified digital healthcare platform today serves as the foundation for the implementation of smart solutions and services that allow us to provide better medical services to Muscovites and at the same time facilitate the work of doctors,” said Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development. – In February of this year, we launched a chatbot based on artificial intelligence that allows you to collect complaints from patients before seeing a therapist. Citizens receive a link to the survey form via SMS or push notification. Now the patient is given an additional choice – the survey can be completed by phone using a robotic voice assistant integrated with a chatbot. He will interview patients before admission and upload information on health complaints to UMIAS. Thanks to this, the doctor will be able to devote more time to directly examining the patient and communicating with him.

As reported on the website of the mayor of Moscow, the new service is still working in test mode in five medical institutions of the capital: in city polyclinics No. 2, 8, 68 and 191, as well as in the consultative and diagnostic polyclinic No. 121. After testing it, a decision will be made to launch the robot in other clinics in the city.

The development of a voice assistant became possible after a unified digital healthcare platform was introduced in Moscow, developed jointly by the Moscow Social Development Complex and the Information Technology Department. The robot works as a full-fledged assistant: it conducts a survey of patients, processes requests from Muscovites by appointment and receives phone calls. With the help of the voice assistant, you can make an appointment, transfer or mark the entry.

In addition, a day before going to the clinic, the virtual secretary calls up the Muscovites who signed up for an appointment and reminds them of the time of the visit to the specialist. As part of a pilot project, he also asks patients about their well-being and offers to take a survey on health complaints. The survey record is automatically transferred to UMIAS and remains in the survey protocol. If necessary, the treating specialist will be able to edit the records. Such a service saves the time of the medical staff: already at the beginning of the appointment, the doctor knows what complaint the patient has addressed to him, and will not waste time entering the data into the medical record. This means that doctors will have more time to communicate with the patient, conduct a diagnostic examination and recommend treatment.
