Due to the heat, the coronavirus in patients is more severe. This was stated by the chief physician of the Moscow hospital named after Spasokukotsky, Alexei Pogonin, reports TASS.
“When the heat wave hit Moscow for the first time this year, we saw an increase in the number of severe cases of COVID-19. Therefore, we recommend that patients with coronavirus maintain sufficient humidity, air temperature in the room, drink more fluids, ”Pogonin said.
In addition, as the specialist noted, coronavirus infection is often complicated by pneumonia. A person has to fight not only with lung damage, but also with fever. “It is doubly difficult for a patient to cope with such a load,” explained the chief physician.
According to him, the heat aggravates the course of not only COVID-19, but also other diseases. This is due to the fact that hot weather is stressful for the body. It increases sweating, shortness of breath, and increased heart rate. Children, people with chronic diseases and pregnant women are especially vulnerable in such weather.
Earlier, biologist Nikolai Nikitin assessed the effect of heat on the coronavirus. According to him, during the pandemic, it became clear that the high temperature does not affect the spread of COVID-19. The specialist noted that hot weather can indirectly affect this when people are less in contact with each other and leave for rest.
