Moscow court refuses to release Wall Street Journal journalist

In Moscow, the court refused to release a Moscow bureau correspondent American edition of The Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich. He was left in custody until January 30 of the following year.

The Moscow City Court held a hearing behind closed doors. There they argued that the case materials contain the heading “secretly”. At the hearing, the court extended the arrest of the American journalist until January 30, 2024.

Note that the journalist’s arrest became known on March 29. Then this was reported to the center of civil relations of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. He was accused of espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The man faces 10 to 20 years in prison.

“Acting on instructions from the American side, he collected information constituting a state secret about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex,” the file says.

Evan Gershkovich was detained in Yekaterinburg “while trying to obtain secret information.” He is in the Moscow pre-trial detention center “Lefortovo”.

Recall that the Moscow City Court did not satisfy the appeal of the lawyers of the American journalist The Wall Street Journal Evan Gershkovich and left him in custody.
