In Afghanistan, due to funding problems, more than half of hospitals for patients with COVID-19 have closed. RIA Novosti reports.
In total, 21 out of 38 hospitals stopped working. The lack of money at medical institutions was revealed after the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation ) came to power in Afghanistan. This happened due to the freezing of Afghan assets by Western banks.
The Afghan Ministry of Health is currently negotiating with international non-profit organizations to obtain funding for medical institutions through donations. Some NGOs have agreed to fund the Afghan Ministry of Health.
Earlier in December, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) transferred $ 16 million to the Afghan Central Bank. According to a Central Bank representative, these funds were used to extend humanitarian aid to the Afghan population. He noted that they will be involved in the fight against poverty in the country.
