The CEO of the organization urged the attackers not to disclose the data, not to sell them and use them in any way.

Hackers broke into the servers of the international organization “Red Cross”. Therefore, attackers could gain access to the confidential data of 515 thousand people.

This was stated by the Director General of the ICRC Robert Mardini, reports Deutsche Welle.

“We are all amazed and puzzled that this humanitarian information has become the target of an attack and can be compromised,” Mardini commented.

According to the organization (ICRC), the cyber attack was carried out by the contractor of the organization in Switzerland, which stores data for the committee. There is no indication yet that the information has been publicly released. It was based on information from at least 60 branches of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world.

Recall that on Friday night, a hacker attack occurred on Ukrainian government websites. Unknown persons broke the electronic services of the cabinet of several departments: the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, the Ministry of Sports, as well as the Ministry of Energy. In addition, the sites of the State Emergency Service and “Actions” were affected.

Ads with threats to citizens appeared on the home pages of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education. On the page, signs with the coat of arms, flag and map of Ukraine, as well as the profile of a pig, were crossed out on a black background. Threatening messages in Ukrainian, Russian and Polish were posted on the portal of the Ministry of Education and Science.

A few days after the attack, all government websites resumed their work.
