SEVERK / Tomsk region /, June 8. / TASS /. The project for the construction of the international thermonuclear reactor ITER, which should be completed by 2025, has been implemented by more than 70%. This was announced on Tuesday to TASS by the curator of the project at the state corporation “Rosatom” Vyacheslav Pershukov.

“The ITER project has exceeded 73% of construction,” he said.

The ITER project was created on the basis of an international agreement between China, the EU, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States. The reactor is based on the tokamak installation developed by Soviet and Russian scientists, which is considered the most promising device for controlled thermonuclear fusion. The power plant is being built in the south of France near the Cadarache research center.

In terms of scale, ITER can be compared with such projects as the International Space Station and the Large Hadron Collider. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that fusion energy can be used on an industrial scale. The Russian side was instructed to manufacture and supply 25 high-tech systems for the future installation. On July 28, 2020, the stage of assembly and installation of reactor equipment began, construction should be completed by 2025.
