More than 600 dead in Nigeria in massive flooding

In Nigeria, due to large-scale floods caused by seasonal downpours killed at least 603 people, more than 1.3 million people were forced to leave their homes.

The floods flooded more than 108,000 hectares of agricultural land and damaged 82,053,000 homes.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency said that out of the country's 36 states, 32 will be affected by flooding, which may intensify in the near future< /strong>. In this regard, the government asked the regional authorities to evacuate the population and provide the necessary assistance – tents, water and medical supplies.

Nigerian states including Anambra, Delta, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa are at risk of flooding.

The Nigerian government confirmed last week that about 75 people had drowned in Anambra state after their boat capsized when people tried to escape the flood.

Hurricane Yen in the USA

In early October, the American state of Florida Hurricane Yen hit – one of the worst storms in recent years.

At least 27 people died as a result of the storm in the United States.

Weather caused more than 2 million people were left without power.

Fox News TV noted that Hurricane Yen is comparable to the strongest storm ever to hit the west coast of Florida. Wind gusts are similar to those recorded during Hurricane Charlie in 2004.
