Car traffic was banned in northwestern New York state.
The number of deaths from the historical, as it has already been called, blizzard in the United States on December 27 rose to 64, as a record snowfall blocked roads, hindering rescue efforts.
NBC News reports this.
Confirming seven additional deaths in Buffalo, a city in northwest New York, Mayor Byron Brown said the storm was “probably the worst this city has seen in 50 years.”
Later during a press conference, the mayor stated that another body had been found, bringing the total number of deaths in Buffalo to 28.
“Despite traffic bans in place in some areas of Buffalo We are still finding a lot of people who are just getting in the way of our first responder efforts,” City Commissioner of Public Works Nathan Marton said.
He added that the department was trying to lay off at least one lane for cars emergency services.
“We need people to continue to be patient, avoid the roads today, and as soon as we can, we will lift the driving ban in the city of Buffalo,” Brown said.
In addition, by Christmas, December 25, Americans experienced the coldest day on record.
There was also a report of winter storm Elliott, which canceled more than 4,300 flights to the United States.
