More than 200 new COVID cases recorded in China, cities go on high alert

Travelers are required to inform about their arrival a few days before arrival.

China on Monday, January 17, reported 223 new cases of active COVID-19 and another 28 patients with asymptomatic coronavirus.

It is noted that 163 cases of infection recorded in Tianjin, Henan, Guangdong, Shaanxi and Guangxi were transmitted locally.

Meanwhile, a number of Chinese cities have gone on high alert as they prepare for a long holiday (January 31 to February 6) to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Authorities in Luoyang in central China and Jieyang in the south said travelers would be required to inform residents, employers or hoteliers of their trips three days before arrival from Sunday.

And in the southwestern city of Yulin, as of Saturday, those wishing to enter were required to fill out a digital questionnaire the day before arrival, indicating their medical and travel information.

Recently, in Beijing, in the Haidian district, the first case of local infection with a new strain of COVID-19 “Omicron” was recorded. This happened just a few weeks before the 2022 Winter Olympics. The housing complex and the patient's workplace have already been sealed, experts are examining 2,430 samples for coronavirus.

Recall that in China, residents of three cities were forbidden to leave their homes amid the rapid spread of coronavirus infection. That week, a lockdown was announced for 5.5 million residents of the city of Anyang (Henan Province).

Strict movement restrictions have been in place for the 13 million people of Xi'an city in Shaanxi province for three weeks now, and in Henan province more than a million residents of Yuzhou city have been quarantined after three cases of asymptomatic COVID-19 were detected.
