More than 16 thousand people fled their homes in California due to wildfires
In the US state of California, local residents are being evacuated due to forest fires. More than 16 thousand people have already left their homes, TASS reports, citing emergency services.
“By 9:00 (19:00 Moscow time) fires in the state led to the evacuation of about 16 thousand people,” – said in a statement.
The authorities urge residents of the region not to waste time and to evacuate, as “every moment can save lives.” Some people defend themselves against rescuers with weapons and refuse to leave their homes. The federal government has allocated additional funds to fight the fire in California. State Governor Gavin Newsom told about it.
The greatest danger is the fire, which is called “Dixie”. It has spread over an area of over 112 thousand hectares. The fire destroyed most of the buildings in the city of Greenville within hours. Currently, no information has been received about the victims of the fires.
Concerns are also raised by the River Fire in Nevada and Placer Counties. Despite the relatively small area of 970 hectares, more than 40 buildings have already been destroyed. The city of Colfax with a population of two thousand is under threat.
Strong winds and droughts prevent fires from extinguishing, so fires spread very quickly.
The countries of Europe are also in fiery captivity. Fires can be seen even from space – the flames are destroying forests, fields, settlements. In Greece, a fiery threat hung over historical monuments, and a power plant caught fire in Turkey.
