In Syria, at the Khmeimim airbase, a monument was opened to the Russian pilot Roman Filipov, who died in a battle with terrorists in the province of Idlib.
– Today we pay tribute to the memory of everyone who fought on Syrian soil with international terrorism, everyone who did not return to their homeland and died, thereby fulfilling their duty to the end, – said the commander of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria, General – Lieutenant Alexander Chaiko.
As Izvestia notes, the bust of the pilot was created by sculptor Mikhail Serdyukov. When creating the monument, the servicemen consulted with the relatives of the deceased.
Now, at the Khmeimim airbase, next to the bust of another hero – helicopter pilot Ryafagat Khabibulin, who died during the liberation of Palmyra from militants in 2016, another hero was installed – in memory of the Russian pilot
