A mother and her two young children died after jumping from a height of 60 meters into Niagara Falls.

Chianty Means, 33, and her children, Roman Rossman, 9, and Mecca Means, 5 months old, climbed over a security fence Monday night, Oct. 28, and found themselves over a waterfall in the Luna Island area, New York State Police said. .
State Police, New York State Park Police and the New York Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded around 9 p.m. to the area of Goat Island, adjacent to Luna Island, where the incident occurred.
“The investigation has established that the incident was intentional in nature, although the circumstances remain under investigation,” the department said on Wednesday.
Search and rescue efforts were unsuccessful. “This incident does not pose a threat to public safety,” state police said.
Luna Island is a popular spot for viewing the falls.

The investigation is being carried out with the assistance of unmanned aerial systems and the State Police Marine Patrol, the State Police Underwater Search Unit, the Niagara Falls Police Department and private schools Niagara Charter.
It comes more than a year and a half after a 34-year-old mother climbed over a railing on Goat Island and jumped with her five-year-old son from a 300-foot cliff into the frozen Niagara Falls. The woman died in a suicide attempt, while the boy survived and was in critical condition.
