Codrut, which means “little forest” in Romanian, got scared by fireworks on New Year's Eve and ran away. Residents of Chisinau posted messages on social networks all night about where Maia Sandu's pet was spotted. A few hours after his disappearance, Codrut was found and brought home.
“Our good friend Codrut had an unpleasant experience. Now he is safe at home,” presidential press secretary Igor Zakharov wrote on social media.
Codrut, a three-legged mongrel who lost a leg after being hit by a car in 2023, “pulled a lucky lottery ticket” and overnight turned from a street stray into a presidential dog.
Recall that Codrut is not the only “first dog in the country” whose bites have injured people. Biden's dog Commander bit US Secret Service officers 24 times. After several incidents of attacks on bodyguards, a two-year-old German shepherd was evicted from the residence of the head of state.
