Mobilization in Israel: Are there draft dodgers, “busification” and who has a deferment

An Israeli journalist explained how mobilization differs in Ukraine and Israel.

Against the backdrop of the threat from Iran, Israel has declared mobilization. However, unlike Ukraine, Israel has almost no evaders, and the so-called “busification” is completely absent as a phenomenon.

This was reported in an interview with Glavkom by journalist and editor of the Russian-language website Izvestia Izrailya, Yigal Movermacher.

They (draft dodgers – Ed.) exist and have existed at all times. But they are few and far between. Previously, if a person declared that he would never, under any circumstances, take up arms, he was not sent to the army – he was sent to prison. And when he came out of there, he was left with a moral stigma,” the journalist says.

At the same time, Movermacher explained that previously Orthodox Jews, in particular students of religious educational institutions that prepare rabbis, were exempt from military service. Now Orthodox Jews have begun to be mobilized as well.

“This has caused great opposition from them and their spiritual leaders. For the rabbis say that these young people should not be called up – they make a sufficient contribution by studying the Torah and praying for the people of Israel. However, the state has its own vision of this situation – it is unwavering, sending out summonses and applying sanctions to those who do not comply. Although only this Orthodox group opposes the decision of the authorities,” the journalist says.

Nobody is “storming” Tisza

The journalist claims that in Israel there are almost no such evaders as in Ukraine, who try to flee abroad and swim across rivers.

“Nobody is running away, nobody is catching or ‘busifying’ anyone,” he assured.

Do parents with many children have a deferment?

According to Igal Movermacher, having children in the family is not a reason for deferment or demobilization. Those who have three children and those who have 8-10 children serve.

“There are many families with many children in Israel. Such men would be very surprised if they were told that they can not fulfill their duty to the state just because they have children,” the journalist concluded.

Let us recall that US President Donald Trump stated that the United States attacked Iran's nuclear facilities.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the attack.
