The Russian authorities have agreed with mobile operators on special obligations that will allow the renewal of permits for 4G frequencies. Operators at their own expense in 2024 will create an infrastructure of high-speed mobile Internet in all settlements with a population of more than a thousand people.
“We were able to agree on additional social obligations with telecom operators,” said Maksut Shadayev, the head of the Ministry of Digital Science (quoted by TASS). He also added that the operators agreed to cover 80% of federal highways with networks.
Earlier it became known that by the end of 2021, 47 settlements of Udmurtia will be provided with a stable cellular signal and mobile Internet. The new complexes will provide more than 10.5 thousand residents with mobile communications and high-speed 4G Internet.
In June 2021, the Ministry of Digital and the Rostec State Corporation signed an agreement on the provision of a subsidy for the development of 5G technologies in Russia. The funds will be directed to the development of a project for the production of equipment for 5G and ensuring its serial production.
Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko to resolve the issue of ensuring communications along Russian roads, where problems with signal quality persist. The Deputy Prime Minister said that the idea of obliging operators to take on the load and provide coverage in sparsely populated areas has been actively discussed over the past year. According to a national project initiated by the President, by 2024, 100% of federal roads should be provided with communications.
