Mississippi River reversal due to Hurricane Ida
The storm surge and strong winds caused by Hurricane Ida changed the direction of the Mississippi River near New Orleans, CNN reports.
According to Scott Perrien, lead hydrologist at the US Geological Survey, the phenomenon is extremely unusual. He assumed that at the depth of the river, where there are no sensors, the current remains normal.
Category 4 hurricane Ida struck Louisiana on Sunday morning. By now, it has weakened to the second category out of five and continues to move inland.
Earlier, the Russian Embassy in Washington urged Russians living on the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico to be especially careful because of the approaching hurricane Ida, prepare for a natural disaster and comply with the instructions of the official authorities.
