Ugandan weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko, who left his team's Olympic training quarters in Osaka on Friday and was reported missing, wants to stay in Japan and work there, according to media reports.
As the city of Izumisano City announced in a statement on Friday, Ssekitoleko did not appear for his daily corona test. In addition, the weightlifter was nowhere to be found in his hotel room at the training camp. The 20-year-old athlete who was not qualified for the Games should have flown home again on Tuesday.
“The city is making every effort to look for the person. We reported the matter to the police, ”it said in a statement. The 20-year-old was last seen in the hotel by a teammate shortly after midnight.
