France plans to decommission 20 Mirage-2000-5 fighters.
Editor-in-chief of Defense Express Oleg Katkov believes that France can transfer up to 20 Mirage-2000-5 fighters to Ukraine, which they plan to decommission from the French army.
Espresso writes about this.
“The information that Ukraine will receive 100% Mirage-2000-5 fighters from France appeared precisely from the country's president. In addition, a deadline of six months is noted. However, it is important to note that the information in the French press that Ukrainian pilots were allegedly training on Mirage-2000 fighters appeared back in March 2023. This information was then denied by the Air Force command. At the official level in the French Senate, the possibility of transferring these aircraft to Ukraine was discussed in the winter of 2022-2023,” Katkov said.
The expert recalled a recent interview with the French Ambassador to Ukraine, in which he stated that the education and training of Mirage-2000 pilots “takes months.”
“It is not yet known what period this is, because even six months can be considered as several months. As for the number of Mirage-2000-5 fighters that France can transfer to Ukraine, this information is kept secret. However, “We can state that we are talking about 20 units. This is the number of these aircraft that are in service with France and are still being withdrawn from service. This was stated by the French Minister of Defense. He emphasized that all the equipment being removed from service is transferred to Ukraine,” Katkov explained.
Recall that according to media reports, France will be able to supply Kyiv with no more than six Mirage 2000-5. Six more can be purchased in three countries that have these aircraft in service.
