Millions of smartphones and computers can lose access to the web
Users of smartphones that run on Android, iOS, and Windows computers may be left without Internet access. Security expert Scott Helme wrote about this in his blog.
According to him, the connection of devices to the global network may be interrupted today, September 30. It is on this Thursday that Let's Encrypt's IdentTrust DST Root CA X3 certificate expires. This encryption is responsible for intercepting data between gadgets and the global network.
A similar situation has already happened last year. Then on May 30, many users encountered crashes.
The expert notes that problems may be encountered by those users who do not update the system, or those who use outdated software versions. In particular, problems can start with PlayStations 3 and 4, Nintendo 3DS, Ubuntu Java 8, Windows XP with Service Pack 3, iOS 10 and macOS 10.12.0.
