If Finland and Sweden join NATO, 93% of the coastal limit will be under the control of NATO countries.
NATO exercises with the participation of Sweden and Finland began in the Baltic Sea.
Expert of the Center for Defense Strategies, Captain 1st Rank of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrei Ryzhenko spoke about the nature of the exercises on the air of the marathon of the Freedom TV channel.
“Planned exercises continue in the Baltic Sea. They were initiated by the Baltic countries – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia. This year, especially many participants took part in the exercises. There are no restrictions on the tonnage of ships in the Baltic Sea, so the issue of increasing the number of participating countries is rather decided there,” Ryzhenko said.
He added that Sweden and Finland joined the exercises this year as well, because they always actively participate in them.
“Sweden and Finland have a common battalion, a mosquito fleet,” the expert added.
Andrey Ryzhenko touched upon the topic of Russia in the Baltic Sea. According to him, in Russia, its Baltic front has greatly decreased after the collapse of the USSR.
“So far, the Russian Federation can control only 7% of the waters of the Baltic Sea. Although it is very important for them from the point of view of the economy. It is very important for Russia to keep these sea ways open so that what happened to Ukraine did not happen to us when the Black Sea was blocked. The Baltic Sea is important for the Russian Federation in order to deliver oil to its consumers,” the expert added.
Andriy Ryzhenko noted that if Finland and Sweden will join NATO, 93% of the coastal border will be under the control of the countries of the bloc.
Recall, Aleksey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, said that now the Russian troops in many directions do not have the resources to in order to continue the offensive.
