EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Josep Borrell and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken discussed coordinating actions in response to the ongoing Russian military buildup in Ukraine and on the border.
“Secretary Blinken confirmed that further Russian aggression against Ukraine will be met with swift, serious and coordinated consequences,” Blinken spokesman Ned Price said in a statement released Jan. 15.
Josep Borrell also reported the conversation on his Twitter.
“We continue our excellent coordination and cooperation with the United States on European security discussions,” he stressed.
The Kremlin has amassed more than 100,000 troops along its border with Ukraine.
This raised fears that Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning a new military invasion of Ukraine.
On January 14, US intelligence officials said that Russia had prepared a special operation to justify a possible invasion of Ukraine.
