Militants associated with the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia) ambushed the governor of Borno state Babagan Umar Zulum in Nigeria and killed 15 people. This is reported by AFP with reference to sources, reports TASS.
The attack took place near the city of Baga on the shores of Lake Chad, when the politician's motorcade was passing near the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Special Forces (MNJTF). The terrorists fired at the cars with machine guns and grenade launchers.
As a result, 15 people were killed: eight police officers, three soldiers and four members of the militia. The governor himself was not hurt.
In January, pirates abducted two Russians off the coast of Nigeria: they attacked an oil dredger AMBIKA, sailing under the flag of Nigeria. The attack was accompanied by a firefight between the pirates and the guards on board.
