Lucia di Lammermoor is a tragic opera in three acts by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. The Italian libretto by Salvatore Cammarano was based on Walter Scott's novel Lammermoor Bride (1819). The premiere of the play took place on September 26, 1835 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Subsequently, Donizetti created a French version of the work, which premiered in Paris in 1839.
