Microsoft named Russia the leader in the number of hacker attacks detected by the company and supported by the state. It accounted for 58%, reports AP. According to the corporation, these attacks were aimed at government departments and think tanks in the United States, as well as Ukraine, Britain and European NATO members.
The corporation provides statistics for 12 months – from July 2020. The number of attacks is not given. According to Microsoft, the effectiveness of Russian attacks was 32%, up from 21% in the past 12 months. This is due to the SolarWinds hack.
China accounts for less than 1 in 10 government-backed attacks. 44% of them were successful.
US intelligence agencies reported an attack on SolarWinds software in December 2020. Private companies such as Microsoft and state and municipal governments were targeted. Washington called the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service the executor of the cyberattack. The SVR considers these accusations to be nonsense. In October 2021, it became known that the hackers who allegedly attacked SolarWinds could be associated with attempts to hack government networks in the United States and a number of European countries, CNN reported.
