Michigan resident pleads guilty to attempted kidnapping of state governor

In the United States, a man accused of conspiring to kidnap the governor of the American state of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, has pleaded guilty, informs CNN.

We are talking about 25-year-old Tayya Garbin, he presented a confession to the court on Wednesday. The man faces up to life in prison.

At the same time, Garbin agreed to cooperate with the investigation in order to bring to justice his five alleged accomplices. In exchange, the prosecutor's office confirmed its readiness to seek a lesser punishment for him.

We will remind, in December 2020, the prosecutor's office brought charges in this case to six residents of Michigan. According to the FBI, a group of extremists planned to overthrow the governments of several American states at once.

Back in October, the prosecutor indicted 13 individuals known to be activists of the paramilitary group Wolverine Watchmen, who were preparing an attack on the Michigan Capitol building and the kidnapping of government officials, of particularly serious crimes, including Whitmer. The attackers discussed their plans on social media.
