Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador accused Spain of plundering the country and proposed to suspend diplomatic relations. It is reported by Reuters.

Speaking at a press conference, the Mexican leader described relations with Madrid as “not very good” and announced the need to take a “breather” without breaking off diplomatic relations. A spokesman for the Spanish Foreign Ministry declined to comment.

The agency pointed out that this is not the first time that Obrador has accused Spain of using Mexico to his advantage. According to the politician, during the reign of previous governments between Mexico City and Madrid there was “economic licentiousness.”

In December 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin allowed a severance of relations with the United States in the event of the introduction of new, “unprecedented sanctions.” According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, if sanctions are imposed, Russia's relations with the West in general will be seriously damaged.
