The German Chancellor believes that the interests of Germany and Europe are directly linked to support for Ukraine.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has discussed with US President Donald Trump the issue of supplying more Patriot missiles to Ukraine, but no final decision has been made yet.
The German leader announced this at a press briefing on the sidelines of the conference on the restoration of Ukraine URC 2025, which is taking place on July 10 in Rome, writes The Guardian.
Merz said he was “in close contact with the American government, with President Trump” about plans to purchase more Patriot systems and send them to Ukraine, stressing the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses “in light of ongoing Russian attacks.”
“The Americans themselves need some of them [Patriot systems], but they also have a lot of them… It has not yet been finally determined whether the delivery will take place,” he said.
At the same time, the German Chancellor noted that the interests of Germany and Europe in terms of growth, a free market economy, energy security and political freedom are directly linked to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
“The future of Germany is very closely linked to the future of Ukraine,” Merz emphasized.
Let us recall that on July 10, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that US partners in Europe have the Patriots Kyiv needs, and Washington hopes to achieve their transfer to Ukraine.
