Peskov and Lavrov criticize the leaders of France and Germany over the rearmament of Europe.
The Kremlin commented on the joint article by Macron and Merz, in which the leaders of France and Germany argue the need to increase Europe's defense capability.
In particular, Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that putting pressure on Russia is useless.
“Russia can only be pushed to the negotiating table by logic and arguments. It is impossible to push Russia by any pressure or force,” he said.
And Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have completely lost their common sense.
“I think that these quotes alone are enough for a person who understands at least a little what is happening in Europe and follows events to understand that these figures have completely lost their common sense and are openly trying to return to the times when France and Germany wanted to conquer all of Europe, primarily the Russian Empire and the USSR,” Lavrov said.
According to Lavrov, despite such actions, the West will never succeed in inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. In his opinion, Russia is not suffering defeat because of the war in Ukraine either.
Let us recall that French President Emmanuel Macron called on European countries to increase their defensive efforts “in the face of an aggressive Russia.”
Macron noted that during the two-day NATO summit, the allies reaffirmed the need to strengthen defense efforts and strengthen the European component within the North Atlantic Alliance.
“These efforts are our duty to ourselves: for our security, sovereignty and independence,” the French leader said.
The politician added that France did not wait for the summit to begin acting in this direction – the French defense budget will grow from the current 32 billion euros to 60 billion euros after the completion of two defense sector development programs.
