Merkel explains the reasons for the slow vaccination in the EU

German Chancellor Angela Merkel explained the reasons why the vaccination campaign in the EU countries is taking place with serious delays. In particular, the speed of vaccination of Europeans against the coronavirus was affected by the fact that the EU representatives “negotiated for a very long time” with manufacturers, but this was correct, since, according to her, it was connected with “questions of guarantees.”

In addition, as the German chancellor noted, “the EU did not make an emergency approval of the drugs,” while the UK allowed the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for 24 hours.

According to Merkel, “we are talking about trust,” and the European Union adhered to the EMA admission procedure, “it was not an emergency admission, but an early admission, that is, a different quality.”

Recall, as the website kp.ru wrote, earlier the Anglo-Swedish company AstraZeneca announced a 60% reduction in the supply of its vaccine to the European Union, and before that a similar decision was made by the leadership of the German pharmaceutical company Pfizer. The European Commission, amid a shortage of vaccines against coronavirus in the Commonwealth countries, announced that it is taking control of the export of all anti-anxiety drugs produced in the EU.
